Health is an intangible state of mind and physical well-being where infirmity and illness are absent. Various definitions have been employed over the years for different purposes. For some it is about being happy with one’s self, for others it involves being content with one’s environment, while still others look at it from the perspective of being healthy and content with life. It can be taken on a number of different meanings and can refer to more than one thing. However, when we consider the physical aspect of health it refers specifically to being able to physically move and survive.
People that have good health will be able to appreciate their physical well-being and be content with their life as well as other people’s happiness. Having good physical health may mean that a person does not need to go to the doctor as regularly as someone else who has poor health. The reasons for this are varied, such as the fact that people who have good health have less need to take medications for minor health conditions as these conditions will not have the same negative impact on one’s health as will serious illnesses. In addition, healthy people are also more likely to make an effort to lead a healthy lifestyle, meaning that they enjoy the finer things in life such as eating the right kinds of foods and keeping active. This helps to ensure that a person is mentally as well as physically fit, therefore helping them to lead a long, healthy life.
Other determinants of health status include: age, gender, genetics, and social environment. As mentioned previously, the age is one of the biggest determinants of health status as it tends to affect how much you can do for yourself once you are old enough to be diagnosed with a health condition. Gender, genes, and social environments also have significant effects on your chances of being in good health or experiencing a certain health condition. In addition, being overweight or obese can affect your weight and general well being, and can affect your level of activity and diet choices.
