Beginners should also learn to observe their opponents for “tells.” These are clues that reveal an opponent’s strength of hand, such as fiddling with their chips or wearing a ring. Being able to pick up on these tells can help beginners avoid making mistakes that can cost them the pot. For example, a player that has been calling all night and suddenly raises is probably holding an unbeatable hand.
