Nutrition – A Major Component Of The Metabolic Process

Food is any material consumed in order to provide nutrition to an organism for life. In the simplest terms, food is food that sustains an organism’s life. Basically food is any food that a living organism can eat, regardless of whether it is digesting or metabolizing. Basically, all living things feed off of food, so essentially all food is vital to the existence of all organisms. Food is also generally of animal, plant or fungi origin, and has vital nutrients, including vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, sugars, or fats.

Food

Food also includes fiber, and forms part of what we call the primary and secondary nutritive systems. The primary nutritive system consists of vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates which are required for the growth and development of organisms. The secondary system is composed of fat, protein, and other nutrients that provide calories necessary for the body’s daily activity.

It is estimated that the average human consumes approximately two thousand calories of food per day. Food is the number one source of our daily nutrition, therefore it is no wonder that nutrition is one of the most important issues that face us as individuals. Unfortunately, many people today live very fast-paced, stressful lives, which make it difficult to balance all of our nutritional needs. With the proper diet, however, this problem can be easily addressed. Indeed, a proper diet can promote a healthy and long life, by ensuring that we obtain the proper amount of essential nutrients from a well-balanced diet, and that we take in large amounts of the appropriate types of nutrients.
